The first time I attended the American Society of Hematology (ASH) Annual Meeting several years ago, I was overwhelmed by the sheer number of people attending, and the energy and dedication of the many brilliant doctors and researchers who are working diligently to finding ways to improve the lives of cancer patients. It is an exciting and rewarding experience and I feel honored to attend the 56th ASH Annual Meeting in December 2014. ASH draws people from around the world to network and share.

This year, I, along with the other support group leaders who will be attending ASH will try to focus on a certain area of interest and report findings through the use of social media. Our goal is to reach out to myeloma patients wherever they are located.

I was diagnosed in 1996 with MGUS, which was later elevated to smoldering myeloma. I have also noticed that our support group is now seeing more of these patients attending and seeking information. This is why I will focus my blogging and tweeting from ASH on MGUS and smoldering myeloma.

Stay tuned!
