Health Canada Approves Blenrep (belantamab mafodotin) Combinations for Relapsed or Refractory Multiple Myeloma

July 23, 2025—According to a press release from GSK, "Health Canada has approved Blenrep (belantamab mafodotin for injection) in combination with bortezomib and dexamethasone, or in combination with pomalidomide and dexamethasone for the treatment of adult patients with relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma who have received at least one prior line of therapy, including lenalidomide for the latter combination."

The approval is supported by positive results from the phase III DREAMM-7 and DREAMM-8 trials, which showed that Blenrep combinations significantly improved progression-free survival and, in one trial, overall survival, compared to standard therapies.

Blenrep is the first BCMA-targeted antibody-drug conjugate approved in Canada and offers a new option for patients facing early or later relapses. The treatment was effective across a wide range of patients, including those with high-risk features, and showed deeper, longer-lasting responses than current options. Common side effects, including vision-related issues, were manageable and rarely led to treatment discontinuation.
