ASCENT Trial to Treat High-Risk Smoldering Myeloma Launching Across the US

The ASCENT trial is evaluating the effectiveness and safety of the combination of Darzalex® (daratumumab) + Kyprolis® (carfilzomib) + Revlimid® (lenalidomide) + dexamethasone in high-risk smoldering multiple myeloma (HRSMM). “We hope to learn whether starting treatment early substantially improves outcomes, leads to a higher level of undetected minimal residual disease (MRD), sustained remissions, and potential cure,” says IMF Chairman Brian G.M. Durie, MD.

You Shop. Amazon Gives.

Auction Open for Pre-Bidding

Did you know that from now until midnight tomorrow, Amazon will be donating 10 times their usual amount to its Amazon Smile partners? The International Myeloma Foundation happens to be one of those many partners. When you shop at smile.amazon.com, make sure to choose the International Myeloma Foundation as your charity. Then, for any of your purchases made on their site, Amazon will donate to the IMF, at no added cost to you. It’s a win-win!

Even if you are not shopping within the next 24 hours, it’s okay. When you shop at any time of the year, Amazon gives to your charity of choice.

The following IMF silent auction catalog items are now online and ready for pre-bidding:

  • Sports and Hollywood memorabilia
  • Exciting trips, flights, and hotel stays
  • Beautiful artwork, photography, and jewelry from notable artists
  • Restaurant gift cards, tickets to Broadway shows, TV set visits, and more!

Pre-bidding will only be available until next Friday. To improve your chances of grabbing the auction item of your choice, purchase a ticket to the night's event. If you cannot be at the 12th Annual IMF Comedy Celebration, we can assign a volunteer to bid on your behalf up to your maximum amount. Just contact auction@myeloma.org for information!

Live from Los Angeles: It’s the IMF Facebook Comedy Pre-Show Extravaganza

The IMF streams LIVE from the Red Carpet of the 12th Annual Comedy Celebration at the Wilshire Ebell Theater in Los Angeles at 6 p.m. PST on November 3, exclusively on the IMF Facebook page. Please note this Facebook Live event features pre-show interviews with celebrity guests, but not the night’s actual performances.

Alie Ward (Television Host & Ologies Podcast Host) and Daphne Lee (Ballerina & 2017 Miss Black USA) will host this Facebook Live event. Alie and Daphne are grateful for what the IMF and all our supporters do for the myeloma community. Both Alie’s mother and Daphne’s father are Myeloma Warriors living with multiple myeloma.

As part of the Facebook Live event, people can donate on the IMF Facebook page. Any amount of donation goes a long way to support patients, to bolster research, and to bring this evening to a larger audience that cannot attend in-person. Even if you cannot give, we hope you join us for free on Facebook to catch all the pre-show buzz!

Important Open Enrollment Announcement

Open enrollment has started, and we want to share some important information with you before you select your plan for the coming year.

If you use co-pay assistance cards/coupons from drug manufacturers (not foundations) to help you pay for your medication, you need to be even more diligent when selecting your plan. A number of insurance plans will no longer count co-pay assistance toward a beneficiary’s deductible and maximum out-of-pocket limit. These new policies are referred to as “co-pay accumulator” or “accumulator adjustment programs.” If your plan adheres to these practices, you may end up unexpectedly paying thousands of dollars more for your medication.

When you choose an insurance plan, be sure to read the fine print and call your insurer to inquire about whether or not co-pay assistance card/coupons will continue to count toward your deductible and maximum out-of-pocket limit. Also, if you hear of plans doing this, please make us aware at advocacy@myeloma.org. We are working with a large group of patient advocacy groups to investigate this issue and educate both the public and policy makers about it.
