Sharon and Marilyn Alexander
A 24-year myeloma survivor, Marilyn Alexander has undergone a bone marrow transplant, and her twin sister (as well as caregiver) Sharon Alexander was her donor. Through her ups and downs with the disease, Marilyn has lived through periods of leading a “normal life,” as well as undergoing such trials as a lesion in her femur, jaw surgery for osteonecrosis of the jaw, and fractures, amongst other issues. As her twin sister Sharon says about Marilyn, “She’s been through so much, and yet she still continues to be a pleasant, optimistic, happy person, and lives a full life.” Marilyn and Sharon Alexander help facilitate a myeloma support group in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and as Sharon says, “People in our group just look at her (Marilyn) in awe, and they are very inspired by her.”
Listen to Marilyn share her story of living with myeloma, and how she and her twin Sharon have developed a strong support network despite adversities.
