Do you want to give back to the multiple myeloma community, but you aren’t quite sure how to do so? The International Myeloma Foundation (IMF) is here to help you give back in a way that is fun and fruitful for everyone involved. If you think that a golf fundraiser would be successful in your area, this article is for you!

  • Where should my golfing event take place?
Find a golfing location that is easily accessible for the people in your community, such as a well-known country club or community center. This location should have enough space for the amount of people you are expecting. Ensure the location has options for bad weather if certain events need to be moved indoors.

  • What should I plan for events at the golfing event?
Besides the actual golfing, you can make the fundraiser more diverse and obtain more money by holding other parts of the event. An auction is a good way to obtain more donations. You can also have live music, food, drink, or other forms of entertainment.

  • This sounds overwhelming. How do I plan my golf event without getting too stressed?
The best strategy to prevent stress or forgetting something crucial is to delegate responsibilities among different people. For example, have someone in charge of the event, someone in charge of advertising, and someone in charge of an auction.

  • Okay, now I have the golf event planned. How do I get sponsors to help make it happen?
When looking for sponsors to help raise funds for your golfing event, make your outreach personal. Write letters. Talk to personnel at local stores. Find a local golfing club or others interested in the sport. These are all great ways to connect with potential sponsors.

  • How should I advertise this event so it’s well known?
Advertise your golf event at its venue itself and throughout your community. Hang flyers around town. Also work with the IMF to create a website to promote the event. Make sure all your promotional materials list the most important details such as location venue, time and date of the event, event sponsors, website, registration info, and the reason for the fundraiser.

  • How do I make sure the event goes as planned?
Simple: print out a schedule and rules for each event taking place. Make sure to include events at the golf course and any other corresponding activities, such as an auction.

  • How can the IMF help me get this golfing event rolling?
The IMF helps people wanting to do any kind of fundraising event with many aspects of it, like helping set up a website or figuring out the best location for the golfing event. Director of Member Events, Suzanne Battaglia, and her team are more than happy to assist you.

Having a golfing fundraiser is both impactful and inspiring. Your fundraiser can not only build more awareness about multiple myeloma, but you choose which division of the IMF your funds support: IMF education programs, the latest research, advocacy, and so forth. Most importantly, you may inspire others to also make a difference.
