Myeloma Action Month

Lake Norman Multiple Myeloma Support Group was in full force for MAM. Below are some of the objectives we completed as part of Myeloma Action Month.  As Warriors, we want to bring more awareness to this cause.  To see other warriors, please visit http://mam.myeloma.org/

What is Myeloma Action Month (MAM)?

Multiple myeloma is the second most common blood cancer; however, many patients have never heard of it until they are diagnosed. The International Myeloma Foundation’s Myeloma Action Month campaign focuses on Myeloma Warriors.

But just what is a Myeloma Warrior? According to IMF Chairman of the Board Dr. Brian G.M. Durie, “Myeloma warriors are patients who seek out the best for themselves while also helping others.” Dr. Durie recognizes that not all patients may not be in the condition to reach others. In this case, he suggests that a patient can have a friend or a caregiver be their “Warrior-in-Chief.” As Dr. Durie summarizes in this video, having the Warrior Spirit means having “energy and resilience” to live well and care for those with myeloma.

We invite YOU – Myeloma Warriors – those living with the disease, supporting loved ones, or providing healthcare to patients – to raise awareness this Myeloma Action Month. Explore this site to learn more about specific actions you can take. Together, we can take ACTIONS that matter. Each of our actions can help to save lives.
