Senators Introduce Legislation to Recruit Additional VA Clinicians
Senators from both parties introduced legislation aimed at addressing the issue of medical personnel shortages. Senator Jon Tester (D-Montana) and Senator John Boozman (R-Arkansas) introduced the The VA Clinician Appreciation, Recruitment, Education, Expansion, and Retention Support (CAREERS) Act. The bill was introduced with the goal of providing the VA with more resources and incentives to recruit and retain qualified clinicians.
Why this is important: If passed, this legislation would ensure that the VA is adequately staffed to ensure that veterans receive quality care from skilled medical professionals. This is especially relevant to myeloma patients who receive care at the VA as the bill leads state it “would also better prepare VA to manage care for the thousands of veterans newly eligible under the Sergeant First Class Heath Robinson Honoring our Promise to Address Comprehensive Toxics (PACT) Act.”
