The Warrior Spirit Takes Many Shapes and Forms. What’s Yours?

A myeloma diagnosis prompts a wide range of responses from patients and loved ones. Some become fierce advocates. Others dive deeply into the research. And many assume the role of compassionate teachers. Each variety of “Myeloma Warrior” spirit plays a critical role in facing the challenges that lie ahead.

Blood Cancer Awareness Month and Baseball for Myeloma: A Huge Success!

Last week, the IMF partnered with Amgen and the world of baseball in a pair of high-profile myeloma awareness activities marking September as Blood Cancer Awareness Month. Here in Los Angeles, IMF Chief Medical Officer Dr. Joseph Mikhael joined L.A. Dodger great Steve Garvey to take a myeloma awareness message to the media. A few days later, in Houston, myeloma patient Michael Tuohy did the IMF proud, throwing out an excellent ceremonial first pitch at the Houston Astros game against the Arizona Diamondbacks. “The Silver Lining” of a Multiple Myeloma Diagnosis

The IMF will conduct a Regional Community Workshop in Birmingham, AL, on Saturday, October 6, 2018. Registration is FREE, but seating is limited. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn from and meet one-on-one with myeloma experts Luciano J. Costa, MD, PhD (Associate Professor of Medicine, University of Alabama at Birmingham), Kelly Godby, MD (Assistant Professor of Medicine, UAB Hematology/Oncology, University of Alabama at Birmingham), and Charise Gleason, MSN, NP-BC, AOCNP (Winship Cancer Institute, Emory University, Atlanta).

In this audio narrative, Tiffany Williams says this about living with multiple myeloma: “The silver lining is not taking time for granted. It’s definitely not taking people for granted. It’s an appreciation for what we’ve been granted. And that’s really what’s right in front of us. It’s the here. It’s the now. Tomorrow isn’t promised, and remembering that on a daily basis. I think that has been very important for me." Listen to Tiffany’s myeloma journey.
