Myeloma Minute: Canada Approves Ninlaro

Health Canada Approves Ninlaro (ixazomib) for Use in Relapsed/Refractory Multiple Myeloma

Health Canada approved Ninlaro® (ixazomib) capsules for use in combination with lenalidomide and dexamethasone. The Canadian health ministry made the approval for treatment of patients with multiple myeloma who have had at least one prior therapy. Approximately 7,500 Canadians are living with multiple myeloma. This approval was mainly based on the results of the phase 3 TOURMALINE-MM1 trial, which demonstrated that this combination therapy can significantly extend progression-free survival in patients with relapsed/refractory MM. Summer Edition of Myeloma Today: Tackling the Rising Cost of Myeloma Health Care...and More

The latest issue of Myeloma Today is out with news from the annual International Myeloma Working Group Summit, which took place in Copenhagen in June 2016. Leading myeloma experts gathered to tackle the rising cost of myeloma care by identifying myeloma treatment guidelines that not only consider cost, but also protect patients from regulations that may limit or distort access. Other important research topics discussed were screening for MGUS, the role of MRD detection, the optimal imaging methods, and the best uses for immune therapies, to name a few. Also included in this issue are highlights from ASCO 2016, the Oncology Nursing Society’s 2016 Satellite Symposium, and reports from patient-centered fundraising events.
