IMF Brings Together 100 of the World's Top Myeloma Experts in Copenhagen for the 7th Annual IMWG Summit

The International Myeloma Foundation (IMF) is excited to host the 7th Annual International Myeloma Working Group (IMWG) Summit June 7-9 in Copenhagen, Denmark. One hundred of the world’s top myeloma experts will attend the 2016 Summit, which convenes on the eve of the annual Congress of the European Hematology Association (EHA). This year, the main focus at the Summit will be the establishing IMWG guidelines to address the rising cost of myeloma drugs, said IMF Chairman Dr. Brian Durie. The IMF’s ”Living Well with Myeloma” quarterly teleconference series is designed to cover all the important and most up-to-date information regarding multiple myeloma. The next teleconference will be broadcast on Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at 7 PM ET / 4 PM PT. This 60-minute question-and-answer session will discuss what patients need to know to overcome side effects from novel therapies. The IMF Welcomes Pierre Sayad as Senior Vice President, Global Medical Affairs and Strategic Partnerships

The IMF is pleased to announce that Pierre Sayad has joined the IMF as Senior Vice President, Global Medical Affairs and Strategic Partnership. Pierre began his pharmaceutical career at Eli Lilly and Company. During his ten-year tenure at Lilly, Pierre helped launch four blockbuster neuroscience medicines for various mental illnesses. Pierre then joined the management-consulting firm, Campbell Alliance, where he worked with over 25 pharmaceutical and biotech companies. He was heavily involved in Onyx’s transition to Amgen, and, as a result, has been very familiar with the IMF’s Black Swan Research Initiative. “I am thrilled to join the IMF and am committed to advancing myeloma treatment paradigms, ultimately improving the lives of patients,” said Pierre. First Italian Livestream Conference for Hematology-Oncology Professionals and Patients

The first Italian livestream of a conference for hematology-oncology professionals and patients with blood cancers was held in Rome on May 19, 2016. Organized by Dr. Mario Boccadoro, President of the Conferenza Nazionale di Oncoematologia, and Luigi Parravicini, with support from the IMF, the conference connected 1,150 participants and four patient centers. Of note, Dr. Federico Mandelli, President of the Italian patient association AIL, and Dr. Mario Boccadoro gave an engaging welcome speech. Also, prestigious myeloma experts, Dr. Antonio Palumbo (University of Torino), Dr. Fabrizio Pane (University of Napoli), and Dr. Michele Cavo (University of Bologna) spoke about the latest trends in myeloma research. Families Affected by Myeloma Come Together for a Race to Raise Myeloma Awareness

The Fainberg and Mencher families are coming together again to host the 2nd Annual Race to Beat Myeloma. Both families have been affected by myeloma. IMF Board of Directors Member Benson Klein, grandfather of Ava, Cece and Sebastian Fainberg, was diagnosed with myeloma in 1998. Andrew Mencher, father of Julia, Eliza and Nicholas Mencher, was diagnosed in September 2012. Both Andrew and Benson are living fun and full lives while continuing to fight the battle against myeloma. Race to Beat Myeloma is a way to raise awareness of the disease.
