35th Anniversary (https://www.myeloma.org/celebrating-35-years-defying-boundaries-redefining-possiblities)
35 Years
In 1990, the International Myeloma Foundation (IMF) became the first global organization dedicated solely to multiple myeloma. Born from the vision of a patient, a care partner, and a physician, the IMF was founded by Brian D. Novis, his wife Susie Novis, and physician Dr. Brian G.M. Durie.
Together, they set out to do something the world had never seen:
- Educate patients and families
- Raise awareness of a little-known cancer
- Drive progress toward better treatments, outcomes, and prevention
That unique blend of perspectives of a patient, care partner, and physician, continues to guide the IMF today.
From a living room in 1990 to a global movement in 2025, the IMF has never lost sight of its mission: to improve the quality of life of myeloma patients while working toward prevention and a cure through four pillars: research, education, support, and advocacy.
The next 35 years will be defined by the same bold vision: a world where every myeloma patient can live life to the fullest, unburdened by the disease.
