Myeloma Experts in Asia Take Steps to Expand Research, Treatment, Education 

The International Myeloma Foundation convened the first-ever Asian Myeloma Network Summit in Seoul, Korea, this past weekend, drawing experts from China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, Korea, Singapore, and Thailand. The Summit’s goal, reports IMF Chairman Dr. Brian G.M. Durie, was to improve the life of patients in Asia and intensify data-gathering and clinical trials in the region. “AMN members are clearly excited to be able to measure up to top US and European research groups.” Read Dr. Durie’s blog.​

The Lancet Oncology Publishes an Interim Overall Survival Analysis of the Phase III ENDEAVOR Trial

The phase III ENDEAVOR trial, “a head-to-head comparison of two proteasome inhibitors in patients with relapsed or refractory myeloma,” shows that the combination of Kyprolis® (carfilzomib) and dexamethasone, as opposed to the combination of Velcade® (bortezomib) and dexamethasone, extends overall survival in patients. Based on results of this analysis, it is recommended that “Kyprolis (carfilzomib) combined with dexamethasone should be considered a standard of care with relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma.”

Executive Actions on the Affordable Care Act

In the morning, Trump signed an executive order directing an overhaul of major federal regulations.In the early evening, Trump announced that the federal government will end the Affordable Care Act’s cost-sharing reduction subsidies (CSRs).
