What Is a Myeloma Warrior?

heart of a myeloma warrior

According to IMF Chairman of the Board Dr. Brian G.M. Durie, “Myeloma warriors are patients who seek out the best for themselves while also helping others.” Dr. Durie recognizes that not all patients may be in the condition to reach others. In this case, he suggests that a patient can have a friend or a caregiver be their “Warrior-in-Chief.” As Dr. Durie explains, having the Warrior Spirit means having “energy and resilience” to live well and care for those with myeloma.

The IMF believes that patients, their loved ones, their healthcare providers, and myeloma researchers are all Myeloma Warriors. We are in this together as One Myeloma Nation.

What Is a Myeloma Warrior Partner?

A Myeloma Warrior Partner is a pillar of support to Myeloma Warriors. Through your generosity, multiple myeloma patients and their loved ones gain access to the best resources for their care. Myeloma advocates are empowered to stand by those in the myeloma community. Researchers gain opportunities to further myeloma prevention, to improve treatment options, and to continue cure-focused studies

Fiscal Responsibility

To ensure accountability and transparency of our Foundation, our annual reports and audit reports illustrate our fiscal responsibility. View them here: https://www.myeloma.org/financials

Why You? Why Now?

We cannot thank our generous donors and volunteers enough: 91 cents of every dollar goes to medical research or patient support, education, and advocacy programs. A gift specifically designated to an IMF research project is 100% allocated as the donor requests. The IMF is proud to share that we earn top rankings from the nation’s leading charity evaluators. In 2018, we received the highest four-star rating for the 14th time from Charity Navigator. Additionally, Guidestar recognized the IMF with a top rating.

IMF financial breakdown

Cancer is everyone’s concern: Myeloma knows no borders.

Multiple myeloma is the second most common blood cancer in the world. Nearly 160,000 new cases are diagnosed worldwide each year. About 180,000 people are currently living with myeloma in the U.S. According to the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results.

(SEER) program of the National Cancer Institute (NCI), myeloma represents nearly 2% of all new cancer cases.

Numbers aside: Patients need you now.

When you support the International Myeloma Foundation, you make it possible for us to continue our groundbreaking research, support, education, and advocacy programs. Our work is already extending the life spans of so many myeloma patients. Not only are patients receiving more personalized treatments that extend their lifespans, but our research has brought us to the cusp of a cure.

Experience counts.

The IMF is a 501(c)(3) non-profit with 30 years of experience and is a trusted partner to individual donors and corporations.
