In this week’s blog, the International Myeloma Foundation (IMF) disseminates much-needed information on emergency and evacuation preparedness, as well as emergency preparation for myeloma patients who are currently affected by the ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles. The IMF is working full force to provide much-needed support and assistance to myeloma patients who are residing in Los Angeles County and have been heavily impacted by this disaster. We have opened our Los Angeles headquarters at 4400 Coldwater Canyon Ave., Suite 300, Studio City, CA 91604 as a temporary shipping location for vital medications and treatments for myeloma patients who have been displaced by the wildfires. The International Myeloma Foundation (IMF) is excited to announce that the 2025 Boca Raton Patient and Family Seminar will take place on March 14-15, 2025, in Boca Raton, Florida. The seminar is FREE, but in-person seating is LIMITED. Speakers include IMF President & CEO and 28-year myeloma patient Yelak Biru; IMF Vice President of Development Sylvia Dsouza; IMF Vice President of Patient Support Robin Tuohy; IMF InfoLine Advisor Teresa Miceli, RN, BSN, OSN; IMF Chief Medical Officer Dr. Joseph Mikhael; and IMF Support Group Leader and 24-year myeloma survivor Michael Tuohy. Many topics will be covered including shared decision-making, financial considerations in myeloma, emotional and physical well-being, clinical trials with patient/care partner testimonials, health disparities in myeloma, a fireside chat on the future of myeloma, to name a few. The next Las Voces de Mieloma (Spanish/virtual) Support Group will take place on January, 21, 2025 from 10 am – 11 am PST. The Guest Speaker for this meeting will be Dr. Deniss Diaz, MD, a hematologist/internist in Santo Domingo, the Dominican Republic. Dr. Diaz is a member of the Dominican Medical College, the Dominican Society of Hematology, and the Spanish Society of Latin American Hematology and Hemotherapy, as well as the current President of the Dominican Society of Hematology. He is an adjunct professor at the school of medicine at Pontificia Universidad Madre y Maestra, a physician in residence connected to the hematology department of Salvador B. Gautier Hospiital, and is in participation/training in the transplant unit at the Italian Hospital in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The IMF’s Miracles for Myeloma Virtual/In-Person 5K Run/Walk will take place on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at 7:00 a.m. EST in Boca Raton, Florida. The race starts and finishes at the Boca Raton Marriott at Boca Center (5150 Town Center Circle). All proceeds from this event will fund the IMF’s life-saving research and work to find a cure.
