2017 Kyle Award Honoree Announced

IMF Names Dr. Paul Richardson of the 15th Annual Robert A. Kyle Lifetime Achievement Award

The International Myeloma Foundation (IMF) today announced that Paul G. Richardson, MD, the R.J. Corman Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Clinical Program Leader / Director of Clinical Research at the Jerome Lipper Multiple Myeloma Center at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, is the recipient of the 15th annual Robert A. Kyle Lifetime Achievement Award.

Visit the IMF Booth at the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Annual Meeting

The annual meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology takes place from June 2nd–June 6th at the McCormick Place Convention Center, 2301 S. Lake Shore Drive, in Chicago, IL. The IMF will have a booth with educational publications at the event. If you are attending, stop by BOOTH 13111 and meet with IMF staff.

 

Calling All Researchers: Submit Your Grant Applications!

The Brian D. Novis Research Grants honor the IMF’s founder Brian Novis, who died of multiple myeloma in July of 1992. The grants are awarded to researchers in the field of multiple myeloma and related disorders including SMM (smoldering multiple myeloma), MGUS (monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance), and immunoglobulin-derived amyloidosis. The 2018 grants will fund senior research projects with $80,000 and junior research projects with $50,000. Tuesday, August 1st, 2017, is the deadline for applications.

 

IMF to Host Regional Community Workshop in Buffalo, New York - June 17 th, 2017

The IMF-sponsored Regional Community Workshop in Buffalo, NY, on June 17th is open for FREE registration. The event will feature myeloma experts Dr. Philip McCarthy (Roswell Park Cancer Institute), Dr. Pallawi Torka (Roswell Park Cancer Institute), and Deborah Doss, RN, OCN (Dana Farber Cancer Institute).

Another Successful Croatian IMF Patient & Family Seminar

On May 27th, 2017, the IMF and the Croatia’s MijelomCRO held the 2nd Patient & Family Seminar in Croatia – this time in capital city Zagreb. Five speakers presented on the most important myeloma topics to a group of 76 participants. Of note, the Bosnian patient support group — created in solidarity with MijelomCRO — attended. The successful collaboration between MijelomCRO and the new Bosnian group triggered plans for another Patient & Family Seminar in Croatia and one for the first time in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina.

 

What new information on myeloma will be presented during ASCO 2017?

In this week’s video, Dr. Brian Durie points to ASCO 2017 presentations on new multiple myeloma drug combinations, monoclonal antibodies, and checkpoint inhibitors; however, he finds there are “no major breakthroughs” on myeloma from this year’s meeting.
